1.3 Students with diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds

As a Lutheran Strand student I have conducted external studies through the Australian Lutheran College, Adelaide. Here I have learnt about Lutheran Schools and how to teach Christian Studies in a Lutheran school.

For one of my Lutheran Strand topics I wrote an essay about how students come from various faith and cultural backgrounds, which means that they will see the world differently, and therefore this impacts the way we teach Christian Studies. Below is an essay providing evidence that I understand that different teaching strategies are necessary to meet the strengths and needs of students from diverse linguistic, cultural, and religious backgrounds.

Diverse Religious Backgrounds effects Teaching Strategies

I have also completed an assignment where I had to design a typical class which included a wide range of diversity. I then had to discuss and explain how I would teach such a class using different teaching styles to meet their needs.

Meeting Diverse Students Needs

When setting relief lessons I have also needed to make it explicit which students have lower linguistic abilities and therefore are required to only choose 6 or 7 spelling words from a selected list as opposed to doing 10.

Lesson Plan for Relief Teacher

During lessons students who struggle with writing also require structured supports to help them to be successful in the classroom. Below is a PowerPoint I used in a History lesson and I provided some students with a help sheet so that they were only required to fill in the required words as opposed to copying entire sentences out which would be an overload to many students.

I am able to design and implement teaching strategies that are responsive to the learning strengths and needs of students from diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds.
