From my practical report my mentor teacher commented that, ‘A diverse range of assessment strategies and tools are used to evaluate student progress and not advantage one group of students at the expense of others. She has appreciated the value of “informal”, formative assessment such as questioning students in class and would often give verbal encouragement to students in class to encourage progress. Stephanie used a wide variety of assessment techniques including tests, assignments and practicals. She designed her assessment tasks to allow students to demonstrate their knowledge of the subject in a variety of different forms. Once students had completed the assessment task, she was very efficient in handing the assessment pieces back, with adequate feedback both at an individual level and as a class.’
Here are some examples of assessment tasks that I have set. Both formative and summative examples are included:
The Digestive System Summary Questions
The Excretory System Crossword
Year 11 Biology-Genetics Assignment
I am able to develop, select and use informal and formal, diagnostic, formative and summative assessment strategies to assess student learning.
