Engage in Professional Learning

I actively engage in professional learning to improve my practice as a developing professional educator. I attended the South Australian Science Teachers Association Conference for 2013. This helped me to deepen my knowledge and understanding; of teaching and learning in Science, and of assessment in Science.  I was also able to build supporting professional networks. I have attended Cornerstone College’s online webinar session on Britannica, a session on the use of Smart Boards, and I have also attended the Lutheran Strand session on Christian Studies Classrooms.  I am a natural collaborator and I enjoy engaging in professional discussions and professional development. I believe ‘The Circle’ is a fantastic initiative and I am glad to have been a part of it while on placement at Cornerstone College.

Since my appointment at Cornerstone College I have attended numerous Professional Development days and sessions. Some include seminars presented at AISSA, The Zoo and Botanic Gardens and within Cornerstone College. Ranging from behaviour management, restorative practices, teaching strategies, key learning area development sessions, Australian National Curriculum sessions, wellbeing, counselling and  sessions on digital technologies.

I communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders within the school community and I actively seek feedback from teachers observing my classes. I reflect upon my own performance in addition to any other feedback I receive, from parents, teachers and students alike. I attend meetings and professional development whenever possible, demonstrating professionalism in all contexts. I am polite to other staff and contributed to professional discussions. I regularly attend social meetings after school hours and converse with many different staff members.
