7.4 Engage with professional teaching networks and broader communities

I understand the role of external professionals and community representatives in broadening my professional knowledge and practice. Therefore, I am a member of PalNet where I contribute to discussions about professional issues and I collaborate with a wide range of educators online. Some of the topics I have discussed include;

Nurturing 21st Century Learners

What if Money didn’t Matter

Performance-Based Pay

The effect of Trauma on the Brain

The Big Issues

Is ICT Transforming Education?

Future Education

Through being a member of PalNet and a Thought Leader I was also personally interviewed about leaders and leadership. View the clip via the link below. I have also included a copy of the dialogue.

On Facebook I am a member of a few groups that also help to keep me updated with what other professionals are doing. Some great resources, lesson ideas and engaging activities are often posted which helps to add to my practice.

Similarly, I have created an Edmodo account so that I can connect with other staff members at Cornerstone College, share resources and ideas. It is also a great way to set up lessons and collaborate.

Since 2014, I have been a member of AISSA’s Early Career Teachers Group which has helped me to extend my networks and participate in professional forums to broaden my knowledge and improve practice. On this page the administrators often post encouraging sayings for early career teachers as they understand the huge demands and expectations. Being a part of this group helps me because I am able to discuss concerns, issues and highlights of first year out teaching with others.

I am also a member of the LSA-Lutheran Education South Australia facebook page which connects all teachers in Lutheran schools in SA.

Furthermore, I am a member of the National Research Management Education Group which provides professional development for all teachers. I attended a session on water testing which then helped me to improve my practice. See the Professional Development Certificate that I received:

They also send out regular emails providing information and ideas on activities that could be tried.
