3.7 Engage parents/carers in the educative process

I regularly involve parents in their children’s learning. At the beginning of the year I sent a letter home so that each student could share it with their parents. This letter introduced myself to them and opened up the lines of communication for the rest of the year and parents commented that they really appreciated my letter.

See a copy of the generic letter below:

Letter 2014

I also called every parent in the first few weeks of school to comment on how their child was settling into Year 7. I also wanted to know from a parent’s perspective how they thought their child was going. I have also called parents on other occasions whether there has been an issue at school or even if they have just had a really good day, or submitted a really good assignment. See a record of the phone calls I have made this year communicating with parents:

Parents sign students’ diaries regularly and communicate via the diary and emails.
I send regular emails home to parents to inform them of assignments their child should be working on. See below:

Parent Emails

It is also planned that parents will come along to an exhibition night in Term 4 where their child can showcase their learning.
